Job Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Chemical Process Engineer to bring our innovative technology out of the lab and into industrial operations. You will be responsible for process design and implementation and will work closely with the R&D team and the CTO. The successful candidate has 5+ years of industry experience, has conducted chemical scaleup pilots, and understands how to improve process efficiency, reduce cost, and improve sustainability.

This is a full-time position in Menlo Park, CA, with a competitive salary and stock options. Priority will be given to local applicants with the status for US employment (H1B transfers are accepted), but we will also consider applicants who can move from Canada and elsewhere in the US. Flexibility to move with the company at a later stage is also preferred.


A Day in the Job

●      Design, implement, and optimize chemical processes from unit operations to complete systems, generating PFDs and P&IDs

●      Analyze workflows and conduct tests to increase efficiency and effectiveness

●      Troubleshoot process problems and implement changes if needed

●      Develop best practices, schedules, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and output quality

●      Manage timeline and provide suggestions to the R&D team based on target KPIs

●      Work with the R&D team to test new setups and improve process design

●      Perform process simulations and modelling

●      Analyze capital expenditures and project designs to help find ways to cut costs

●      Perform process risk assessments

●      Define equipment specifications

●      Communicate with third-party engineering partners and equipment manufacturers



●      5+ years industry experience in process engineering, composing PFDs and P&IDs

●      A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or process engineering

●      Experience turning lab chemistries into industrial processes

●      Experience modelling processes, testing assumptions, and optimizing designs

●      Experience documenting all relevant process details in an organized fashion

●      Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

●      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical information

●      Ability to provide laser-focused feedback to the R&D team

●      Proven history in meeting target KPIs in a timely fashion

●      Good grasp of chemical techniques and ability to run lab experiments for scaleup purposes
