Job Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Crystallization Scientist to separate and purify our products to commercial standards. You will be responsible for developing purification methods and processes, particularly pertaining to crystallization. You will work closely with the R&D team and the CTO. The successful candidate has 5+ years of experience in crystallization separation techniques at bench scale and pilot scale.

This is a full-time position in Menlo Park, CA, with a competitive salary and stock options.

A Day in the Job

  • Design and optimize methods and processes for the separation of a mixture of crystalline chemicals into individual components

  • Plan and conduct experiments and feasibility studies

  • Develop and perform analyses to support the separation method development

  • Improve experimental workflow to increase efficiency

  • Troubleshoot and develop innovative solutions to reduce overall cost of the process

  • Research, calculate, and model scaling implications of the method in development

  • Work with the R&D team to improve product purity in the upstream reaction process

  • Bring the bench scale purification process into pilot scale

  • Communicate with third-party engineering partners and crystallization equipment manufacturers

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in crystallization separation techniques at bench scale and pilot scale

  • 5+ years of experience in relevant analytical techniques (GCMS, HPLC, DSC, XRPD, etc.) to support the method development

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or chemical engineering

  • Experience removing impurities from crude chemical mixtures

  • Experience separating chemical mixtures into individual compounds

  • Experience reaching >99% purity for crystalline chemicals

  • Experience documenting relevant method details and data in an organized fashion

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical information

  • Worked at a purification process development firm

  • Worked as a crystallization scientist or engineer
